About Me

I am a First Class BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology Graduate, from the University of Hertfordshire. I have a keen interest in motorsport and am currently learning to code in Python 🐍

Skills Summary

  • Developed practical workshop skills during degree studies, work experience and voluntary activities, where I restored a Mustang and built a test rig.
  • Experienced in engineering software (MATLAB, CatiaV5, ANSA, GT Suite) and technical drawing to BS8888 standards.
  • Strong team-working skills developed through working at events at Racing Bug and through group project work in my studies.
  • Developed good organisational and time management skills when completing projects to deadlines. Successfully managed two active University societies.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with teammates and clients using verbal, visual and written methods. Presented on researched topics throughout studies, achieved good marks on written reports and engaged with customers at The Racing Bug.
  • Logical and methodical approach to solving problems , and the willingness and ability to be flexible and to adapt ideas when necessary. Diagnosed and found solutions to design flaws and mechanical faults during University projects.
  • Experienced user of a variety of common software packages: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Project, Access, Outlook).

Education

2015-2018
First Class Honours BSc in Motorsport Technology
University of Hertfordshire

Key Modules:

  • Design of High-Performance Engines
  • Vehicle Aerodynamics and Design
  • Automotive Chassis and Powertrain Technology
  • Motorsport & Automotive Technology
  • Automotive Electrical Systems Engineering
  • Operations Management
  • Materials & Electrical Technology
  • Computing for Business & Technology
  • Vehicle Design Racing Car Body Engineering
  • Thermofluid Experimental Engineering
  • Simulation and Analysis Techniques
Designing a Honda Goldwing Motorcycle Canopy for Final Year Project
  • Researched standards to be adhered to, anthropometrics to be considered, potential systems and problems, and competitors in the market.
  • Generated concepts and used House of Quality to evaluate selection.
  • Analysed final design using Catia FEA to identify weaknesses and improve design iteratively.
  • Produced 60-page report on all work done in project, along with a 10-minute presentation summarising product development.
Engine Simulation and Improvement Using GT-Suite
  • Created a simplified engine simulation and modified complex simulation to match given engine, based on measurements taken in lab.
  • Changed BSR to increase engine power, and then optimised valve timing to maximise HP.
  • Investigated impact on power and efficiency of further modifying engine by adding turbocharger, comparing all engine simulations at different engine speeds.
Designing and Building a Fuel Injector Test Rig for the Brunel Formula Student Team
  • Considered the problem posed and collaboratively designed an appropriate solution.
  • Built test rig to our design specifications from scratch, working to a tight budget. Had to be resourceful and creative finding ways to recycle and adapt parts and materials.
Various IT Based Projects - Data Handling, Project Management, Advanced Spreadsheet Design, Database Design, Interactive Multimedia
  • Worked individually and as part of a team and liaised with clients, developing interpersonal skills, learnt specific skills for managing projects, including using Gantt charts, Microsoft Office Project, and critical path analysis to manage time efficiently/effectively, learnt about how to run a meeting, make agendas, take minutes to communicate effectively.
  • Designed and implemented database, spreadsheet, and multimedia systems to meet the needs of clients, tested solutions, and produced installation guides, and other documentation for the systems created.

Work & Voluntary Activities

Event Assistant at GlobalGames Sports

  • Worked with customers and the public at events.

Engineering and Event Support Assistant at The Racing Bug

  • Gained experience in the workshop, both with machinery and electronics.
  • Gained an understanding of team dynamics, working under time pressures.
  • Gained experience working with customers at events.

Restoration of Mustang

  • Gained practical experience, replaced old leaf spring suspension, replaced drum brakes with brake discs.

Brunel Motorsport Centre Volunteering

  • Built a fuel injector test rig from scratch, working to a tight budget. Resourceful, creative, found ways to recycle and adapt parts.

Formula Student

  • Participated in the UH Racing Class 2 Formula Student team, working on the powertrain with a focus on cooling systems.

Hobbies

  • Former President of Brunel University Sci-Fi & Fantasy Society and Treasurer of Film Society. Built good relationships with diverse range of people. Prioritised study, work, and social commitments. Developed good leadership and time management skills.
  • Learning to play guitar, managing my time to plan practice sessions and develop my skills.
  • Learning to code in Python, write scripts to automate simple tasks to save time.

Additional Information

  • Full, clean UK Driving Licence.
